Unsung Heroes Do Count
'ETERNITY' for men, by Calvin Klein; says the advert. Depending how ready you
are, the good or bad news is that 'eternity' is for men and women (that's the
real eternity, not the perfume).
This eternity exists outside of time and we will all enter it, with or without
the right 'visa'. No need to be afraid, there is a certainty of a great eternity
available from God.
It is said, "only one life, will soon be past, only what's done for God
will last". Jesus said, "don't store up for yourselves treasures on
earth where the elements and thieves can take and destroy, but store your
treasures up in heaven. For where your treasure is, your heart will also
be."
Last month I wrote on the question, 'who is the greatest?' I concluded that the
great were not always obvious. In quoting Jesus, we noted that He said, "if
you want to be great in my Kingdom, you need to be a servant of all".
Two great 'unsung heroes' in our community are Ted and Joan Clark of Woori. They
have fostered many children in their home over the years.
Talking to them, it was heart warming to hear the stories of fear, heartbreak
and anxiousness develop into love, trust and solidarity. The fostered children,
because of that care, have now become responsible contributors to our society.
One of those boys is now a Christian minister. Just think of all those who now,
in turn, receive pastoral care and learn of God's love and forgiveness. Jesus
was so right in defining 'treasures' and encouraging their right placement.
With interest rates low over the last few years many Aussies have collected
treasures with a mortgage tag attached. I wonder how many percentage points
interest needs to go up before those 'treasures' are lost here, let alone
eternity.
Dare to read Jesus' words or talk to Him about it.
